William "Al" Marshall

July 31, 1941 — January 23, 2019

Born July 31st 1941 in Toronto ON, passed away in the Huntsville Memorial Hospital, January 23rd 2019.
Growing up on Sheldrake Boulevard in Toronto, Al attended the Toronto public school, North Toronto collegiate institute, he then moved on to graduate with a Bachelor of Arts - major in Economics from Sir Wilfrid Laurier university in Waterloo On, as well as attend an executive development school at Dalhousie University in Halifax NS.

Al was a lifelong Railroader who became a pioneer of CN's I.T development during his 35 year career with Canadian National Railway that spanned from May 26 1964 - June 30th 1999. He held positions in operations, many levels and departments of the I.T and systems technology groups and also worked with CN Marine for 6 years in Moncton New Brunswick. He was described by his colleagues as dedicated, knowledgeable, forward thinking, strategic and of course a gentleman. After his retirement from CN he launched LTS consulting as a side project, named after his beloved one tree island on skeleton lake.
Al grew up spending summers and holidays at the family cottage on Skeleton Lake in Muskoka, he moved to Montreal for work with CN, then to Moncton with CN Marine and back to Montreal after the passing of his wife. In retirement he made the move to Huntsville where he could enjoy the golden years and spend as much time as possible at the cottage he loved so dearly. He found great joy and friendships in his various roles with the Probus Club of Muskoka North, Skeleton Lake Cottagers organization, Lake planning committee, Skeleton lake history project, bridge club, dinning in group, ogres club and book clubs. He forged lasting friendships that meant so much to him. He was also a leader and very involved with Scouts Canada at various times in his life. Al was very fortunate to have a strong group of lifelong friends that he shared so many great memories with.

Al was predeceased by his mother Mary Ann Heatly Mathieson (Toronto), his father William Allen Marshall(Toronto), his Brother Donald Roderick Marshall(Utterson), and the love of his life, his wife Kathleen Marshall (Reedie). He is survived by his sons, William Craig Marshall (Huntsville ON), John David Marshall (Nicole) Beaver bank, NS, Granddaughter Mackenzie, Grandsons Trevor, Brayden, Colin and Reid, as well as his Nephews, Nieces and all of their families. Al will be sorely missed and forever remembered in the hearts of his family, friends and all who knew him.

A celebration of life will take place at Billingsley Funeral Home on Saturday, February 2nd, 2019 from 1-3 p.m. with speeches beginning at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Al's name to the Aspen Valley Wildlife Sanctuary, Canadian Cancer Society or the local charity of your choice.
