SAUNDERS, Ruth Isabelle (née Stewart)

Mom, Sister, Nan, Gigi, Auntie Ruth, Ruthie and many other names, passed away peacefully at Huntsville Hospice on May 31, 2022 after a courageous battle with lung cancer with her family surrounding her with love and guiding her way to the gates of heaven. Ruth is predeceased by parents Flora and George Stewart, sisters Sandra Marshall (Terry), Beverly Stewart (Duncan), brother Dawson Stewart and survived by Sherman (Gloria) Stewart.

Ruth bravely left behind son's Randy (Gilda) Saunders, Steve (Belinda) Saunders and Sheldon Saunders. Not only was Ruth able to fall in love once to her first husband Floyd Saunders (predeceased), she “struck a gold mine” when she as able to fall in love with her forever soul mate, Ron Saltzman, whom loved and adored her for 40+ years.

After wanting to move out of Toronto, Ruth and Ron decided to move the family to Port Sydney after many years of “going up north” during the summer time and enjoying many hours on Sand Lake in Kearney.

As their children got older and began having children of their own, Ruth’s world began to revolve around her grandchildren; Kevin (Jenna) Saunders, Michael Saunders, Brandy (Bill) Mitchell, Stacey (Steve) Slute, and Jeremiah/MiaMia Pawis. Just as Ruth thought she couldn’t love any more she was then blessed with the privilege of becoming Gigi, something she never thought would happen. Now Ruth lives in the hearts of 7 great grandchildren; Heath Saunders, Rylee Mitchell, Raya Mitchell, Dallas Slute, Baylee Slute, Karson Isaac, and Tezlyn Isaac.

Over the past 10 years Ruth found her home away from home at Muskoka Glens Trailer Park. The friendships that turned into family, the laughs, the stories, countless games of horseshoes, maybe having one to many drinks, campfires under the stars, getting your jig on, and receiving an over whelming sense of security and love.

Ruth had it figured out - don’t sweat the small stuff, be nice to everybody you meet, speak what’s on your mind (if you don’t like it too bad!), sit back and enjoy quiet when you can, never take anything for granted, love until you think you can’t love anymore, do what makes you happy, be a strong independent individual, and lastly “don’t take no bs from anybody", "Time to kiss an angel good morning and love her like the devil when you get back home", and of course, "Tootaloos".

Ruth's family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff and volunteers at Hospice Huntsville. When our world was falling apart you were there to hold our hands, reassure us that everything was going to be okay, and assisting Ruth in passing with dignity and pain free; for that we will always hold the nurses of Huntsville Hospice close to our hearts - your hard work and dedication certainly did not go unseen.

Family will be accepting family and friends to join them at a Celebration of Life on July 30, 2022, from 1-4 p.m. at Billingsley Funeral Home , Huntsville ON . If desired donations can be made in Ruth’s name to Algonquin Grace Hospice or OSPCA Muskoka.
