SANDILAND, Robert (Bob) Norman passed away peacefully with his wife at his side on July 27, 2023 at the age of 76. Robert was born on July 19, 1947, to Edward James Sandiland and Mary Donalda (nee Thompson) Sandiland. Survived by his wife, Cindi and his son, David (Christa) Sandiland and Donald (deceased), Jonathon (Lacy) and Alisha Wallace. Loved by his granddaughters Allison, Myah and Layla Sandiland and his grandsons Christian, Austin and Charles Wallace. Loving brother of Mildred. Predeceased by his brothers Tom, Les and Lionel and his sister Loretta. He surely will be missed by his many nieces and nephews.
Bob wanted to be a police officer from a young age. His father was with the RCMP. Bob joined the Royal Canadian Airforce Military Police at the age of 17. At one point he was a dog handler in Germany guarding and protecting nuclear facilities. After 10 years of service with the RCAF MP he became an OPP officer working in different locations throughout his career. He taught at Aylmer Police College before being stationed as a Sgt. in Huntsville. This is where he met his wife of 24 years and became a wonderful stepfather and grandfather. During his time with the OPP in Huntsville he also taught police courses at the Muskoka center and headquarters in Orillia. Over his years of service, he was awarded medals and honours but was a private man and did not speak much about these.
Bob has left us with many memories that will live in our hearts.
Cremation has taken place and at Bob’s request there will be no funeral. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations can be made to the Vets without Borders, OSPCA, or the charity of your choice in lieu of flowers.
