RUMNEY, Philip Harry
In his 98th year, passed away peacefully at Fairvern Care Home in Huntsville, Ontario on Monday, September 20, 2021. Philip is survived by his wife Madeline “Joyce” (nee Healey), loving wife of nearly 68 years. Father of Jean (Ivars), Keith (Lee), Dalton Mark, Bruce, Kathryn (Brian) and James (Susi). Grandfather of Christian, Jesse, Eva, Erin, Tyler, Sean, Gabriel, Meghan, Joel, Lexi, Pam, Bailey and Dylan. Great-grandfather of Vizma, Levon, Adreianna, Blake, Bennet, Liam, Quinn, Desiree, Willow, Arianna, Hunter and William. Philip was predeceased by brothers George and Jack and is survived by sister Connie Stephenson.
Philip was the eldest son of Dalton and Violet (nee Butcher) Rumney, he was born on the family farm in Vasey, Ontario. Philip married Joyce in 1953, raising their 6 children in Victoria Square, Ontario in a house he built on the family dairy farm. Philip worked as a carpenter/cabinet maker, passing his skills on to his sons who have taken up his love of building and construction. His daughters have appreciated his back to basic approach to life, always trying to fix or mend and never cast aside. Philip was a proud WWII veteran, serving in the Air Force as a bomb aimer/bombardier for 4 years. Philip spent most of his summer months since birth at his second home in Port Sydney. He retired to Huntsville in January 2013. Philip was a quiet, introspective man. If he wasn’t playing scrabble or watching Jeopardy, he was happiest if he had a book or 2 by his side along with a cup of black coffee and a pair of Joyce’s hand knit socks. He will be greatly missed but we are all thankful for the time we spent with him.
