Huntsville, Ontario

WALLENIUS, Orvo (Orv) Walio

Sadly, Orvo passed away at Muskoka Shores Care Community in Gravenhurst after a long and difficult illness on January 24, 2022 at 93 years old.  He is deeply missed by his wife Colleen, the love of his life for more than 68 years. He was the much loved Dad of Brock (Marlane), John (Patricia) and Bette. He will always be Grandpa to Daniel (Sandra) and Thomas (Candace), Uncle Orv to niece Connie (Vince) and great niece Emily (Mark).

Orv was born in Nipigon, Ontario and was predeceased by his parents Hemmi and Impi Ranta. As a boy, he worked in his father’s logging camp, saw mill and farm. He explored the forests surrounding Nipigon and was as comfortable there as in his own home. When his father, Hemmi, went hunting he would take Orv along and give him a rifle with a single bullet, which helped Orv become an exceptional marksman.

Over the years, Orv was employed as a forest ranger, firefighter, hotel security officer and retail loss prevention officer. Later in life he became a mechanic for air-cooled, marine and small engines, as usual with great skill. He also possessed a private pilot’s license and often flew out of Buttonville Airport.  Retiring to Huntsville in 1990, Orv fished, hunted, cross-country skied, snowshoed, canoed, camped and took up archery. He tied his own fishing flies and indulged his love of woodworking and pyrography.

It’s very difficult to refer to our Dad in the past tense, but he will always be remembered for his courage, which helped him face down many hardships, dangers, and bouts of serious illness. We’ll always cherish his big smile and bright blue eyes.

Donations in Orv’s memory to Muskoka Seniors, or, to Huntsville Public Library would be greatly appreciated by his family in lieu of flowers.  It was Orv’s wish that there not be a funeral.  Messages of condolence can be left at www.billingsleyfuneralhome.com

Dad, we love you, we’re so proud of you, and we miss you.
