CALLACOTT, Nancy Ellen (nee May)
It is with profound sadness that the family of Nancy Ellen Callacott announces her death at Fairvern Nursing Home on May 15, 2022 at the age of 78.
Born in Huntsville, to Aubrey and Kathleen May, Nancy grew up on Hanes Street, where she learned a genuine appreciation for nature. Under her father’s guidance, she nursed birds and small animals back to health, learned to identify trees, and developed a knowledge of birds - that she would pass on to her own family. Summertime saw her attending camp on Beausoleil Island at Camp Kitchikewana during her teen years. As a young adult, she attended business school in Toronto.
With a diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis as a young woman, Nancy faced life with a remarkable attitude, a generous spirit and a uniqueness all her own. Not one to dwell on her own health problems, she loved to befriend others - often seniors - listened well, and liked to help. She enjoyed books, took up pet-sitting, as she loved animals, and travelled to Cuba.
In her later years, Nancy was fortunate to reside at Fairvern Nursing Home, where - not only was she well-cared for by the wonderful staff - she developed new bonds, nurtured others, gardened, played games with new friends John and Irene (whom she adored), and continued to laugh. She was truly an inspiration.
Nancy is survived by daughter Judy (Richard), sister Leda (David), brother Bob (Judy) and granddaughters Taylor and Sophia.
A family celebration of life will be held at a future date.
Should you wish to honour Nancy, donations to Fairvern Nursing Home or OSPCA would be appreciated.
