Mary Anne Riddell

November 2, 1941 — August 22, 2024

Huntsville, Ontario

Mary Anne Riddell (nee Ion) went home to Jesus on August 22nd, 2024. She passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully in her sleep at the Huntsville Memorial Hospital in her 83rd year.

Beloved wife of Ted Riddell for 63 years. Loving mother of Kim (Ray) Chan and Brad (Janette) Riddell. Cherished grandma of Caleb (Laura), Jacob, Zachary, Alexis (Keith) and Murray. Great grandma of Evanna and Adryan and aunt of Brenda, Anne, Tim, Holly, Jo-Ann and the late Danny. Loving daughter of the late Mary Marguerite Tice and Arthur Ion. Dear sister of the late Frank and the late Dennis Ion, daughter-in-law of the late Charles and Isobel Riddell and sister-in-law of the late Betty (Dan) Dunlop and the late Susan Riddell. Fondly remembered by her friends and many caregivers who regularly came to our home.

Mary Anne was born in St. Catharines but moved to Woodstock as a baby. She developed a love of music at a young age. You would often hear her humming, even recently before she passed away. Her mother enrolled her in guitar lessons and that is where the love story between her and Ted began. She taught music and also worked at Harvey Woods but her greatest joy was being a homemaker and the best mother ever. She was very involved at church, whether it was teaching the teen Sunday school class, organizing the Christmas banquet, involved in Women’s Ministries or playing guitar in the church orchestra and you would often find her playing music at the nursing homes Sunday afternoons. Mary Anne and Ted were in a couple of music groups that would travel around on Sundays playing at different churches. She loved to decorate her home and was always busy entertaining. She was gifted in sketching, knitting, crocheting, sewing and writing. You would often hear her reciting at church, poetry that she had written. She was always ready to share her faith with others and was an encourager. Although she had many health challenges and hardships throughout her life, her faith and love for Jesus never wavered. She was a mighty prayer warrior, our rock, voice of reason and strongest supporter. We miss you so much! Thank you for loving us so well and your many prayers!

Thank you to the many PSWs, nurses, doctors, caregivers and friends that have helped care for Mary Anne over the years. A special thank you to NP Glenn Hooyer, PSW Jane and Nurses Cory, Sarah and Donna for your wonderful care.

Cremation arrangements entrusted to the Billingsley Funeral Home. The Celebration of Life will be held at the Rosseau Memorial Hall (2 Victoria Street W, Rosseau) on Saturday, September 21st, 2024 at 2 PM. Visitation will begin at 1 PM.

If desired, in lieu of flowers, as expressions of sympathy, donations to Muskoka Woods – Send a Kid to Camp would be appreciated (foundation.muskokawoods.com) as it is near and dear to our hearts.
