BRANDT, Margaret Annabel Joy
1933-2023
Adored by all, Joy Brandt (Homer) passed away peacefully in her sleep at Extendicare in Kirkland Lake, Ontario on June 12, 2023. Aunt Joy was born in Mara Township, Ontario to Lillian Irene Homer (McQueen) and George Homer on April 11, 1933. She was the head cashier at Dominion in Toronto for 10 years before she began her florist career.
Aunt Joy and Uncle Don opened Brandt’s Flowers in Huntsville in the 70’s. She and Uncle Don were very active within the community, even sponsoring the Huntsville Honey’s girls hockey team at a time when the Honey’s really needed the support. A team trip to Denmark and Sweden was the highlight of this time.
Upon opening the flower shop they made the move to Clear Lake and their cottage became home. Clear Lake became the base for memories that we will all share for a lifetime. Family and friends were welcomed with open arms. Aunt Joy loved nothing more than being surrounded by her loved ones.
Aunt Joy is survived by her youngest son, Darren Brandt (Ashley-Anne) of Kirkland Lake. Grandchildren; Danielle Bragg ( Corey), Michelle Clack ( Paul), Luke Johnson, Ethan Brandt, Jesse Brandt and Lucas Lamarche. Great Grandchildren; Hayden Defalco, Maria Defalco, Betheny Bragg and Tristen Clack. Aunt Joy is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins that she loved unconditionally. We will always remember her as the force that united us all.
Aunt Joy has been called home to be with her husband, Don, 2 sons, Steve Johnson and Kim Johnson and her beloved Granddaughter, Yolande. She is also predeceased by her parents and all her siblings. Her faith held her up through a life of trials. She was one of the strongest woman I knew and a shining example for all of us.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Saturday, September 9, 2023 at the Active Living Centre in Huntsville from 1 pm – 5 pm. A short service will be lead by Pastor Nate Pifer at 1:30 pm. Please join us to celebrate this amazing woman.
