M. Elizabeth (Major) Hare

March 22, 1925 — July 13, 2018

Elizabeth Hare (Betty), long-time resident of Huntsville died Friday July 13th at Muskoka Landing, Huntsville, Ontario. Born in Belfast Ireland on March 22, 1925, she was the third of six daughters to Rev. William John Major and Elizabeth Smith. Betty graduated from the Ottawa Civic Hospital School of Nursing in 1947 and married Ron Hare in 1948. Ron's job with the Canadian Forces allowed them to experience many parts of Canada, something Betty thoroughly enjoyed. They had four children and settled finally in Huntsville where Betty nursed until retirement. She was an avid gardener and photographer and a long-time member of the Trillium Handspinners and Weavers Guild where she made many friends. She was generous with her talents and her hand-woven tea towels continue to dry dishes across the country. She is predeceased by her husband Ron (2014), daughters Terry & Cheryl (1953, 1958), daughter Ann (2012) and son Brian (2014). She is also predeceased by sisters Eva Beverley, Joan, Bertha and Bea. She is survived by one sister, Beryl, in North Bay. She is also survived by nieces Jill, Bev and Liz and nephews Chris and David as well as several grand nieces and nephews and two great nieces and great nephew. The memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 1 p.m. at All Saints' Anglican Church in Huntsville. Interment at St. James' Cemetery, Toronto. Elizabeth's family wishes to thank Margaret Penner, Sally Beck, the Venerable Dawn Henderson and Pat Babb who contributed greatly to Betty's care and welfare over these last several months. Thanks also to the staff at Muskoka Landing and Dr. Kelley Wright for the care and compassion that Elizabeth received during her time there, and to the staff at Rogers Cove. Thanks also to Dr. Andrew Hudson. A special thank you to Elizabeth's knitting friends at Rogers Cove - she truly loved spending time with you. Memorial gifts may be made to the Starfish Fund at All Saints Anglican Church in Huntsville. Arrangements entrusted to Billingsley Funeral Home of Huntsville, Ontario.
