SCHMIDTKE, Koen "Koko" Robert Wilfred

It is with great sadness that we announce the tragic loss of Koen.  Koen (Koko) Schmidtke was a bright spirit and has left holes in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know him.  He passed away at home on January 22, 2022 at the tender age of 22.  He was the beloved son of Kevin and Tara (Marcus) and a cherished brother to Kelton and Taea and step-brother to Lara.  He will be greatly missed by his grandparents Phyllis Fraser (Barrie), Doug Fraser, and Helen and Norm Schmidtke.  Family gatherings will never be the same for his many aunts and uncles and cousins who loved him so deeply and are devastated by his loss.

Often heard before seen, Koko’s infectious laugh will never be forgotten.  He was an adorable scallywag who brought joy to whoever he was with and had a gift for making everyone feel special. He will always be remembered for his kind, generous spirit, and his exuberant nature. He made everyone laugh and could be relied upon to bring life to any occasion. He had all the time in the world for anyone who needed him. Koen was a true friend to all and his absence will be greatly felt.

Koen was happiest in the outdoors and was always up for an adventure.  Whether it was scuba diving or climbing a mountain, Koko was always keen to get amongst it. He loved hunting and fishing, and Killarney will always be a special place for him. He was a generous soul who loved all living things. He was gifted with plants and gained pride from his gardens. He was employed as a landscaper when he lived in Australia and was a natural when working with his hands. So witty and cheeky, Koen was a great co-worker to have.  No matter what job he was doing, he made every workplace a fun place to be.

His love of animals was immense.  Archie will miss Koen’s love and affection.

This world will never be the same without Koen’s brilliant spark. A Celebration of Life will take place when we can all gather together to honour such a beautiful person in the manner he most deserves.

As an expression of sympathy memorial donations can be made to Aspen Valley Wildlife Sanctuary, The Friends of Algonquin Park and Muskoka Mental Health Association in Lieu of flowers.
