Katie passed away peacefully with family by her side on December 6, 2024. Katie is survived by her children, Rob (Debbie) and Sue (Gord), nephew Alexander Crichton, niece Elizabeth Cobb, grandchildren Josh, Ben, Heather and great grandchildren Anthony and Luca. Katie was predeceased by her husband Robert Keen and sister Betty Ann Crichton.
Katie was a long-time resident of Pembroke Ontario where she volunteered with the Alexandra Club of Pembroke and Meals on Wheels, among others. Katie had many passions, family, Cache Lake, art, choirs, bridge groups, golf, friends and connecting with people. Katie loved nothing more than an in-depth conversation with friends and family about their lives. Cache Lake was particularly special, as it was here that Katie continued her love of the outdoors that was started in the 1940’s with family camping trips and many summers as a camper and counsellor at Camp Northway Lodge. A true trail blazer and fiercely independent, Katie passed on her love of the outdoors, especially Algonquin Park, to her children and grandchildren at the family cottage. Cache Lake was the stability over the years. The bonds of the ladies of the lake ran deep and continue into the next generations. Katie will be laid to rest beside her husband in Pembroke Ontario in the spring.
As per her wishes a celebration of life will be arranged at a later date. If you wish, in lieu of flowers donations to Friends of Algonquin Park, https://www.algonquinpark.on.ca would be appreciated.
