The sudden death of Irwin Field occurred on Sunday, October 13, 2019.
Predeceased by his parents Robert and Olive Field, Irwin is survived by his loving family; his wife Bernadette, his daughters Marilyn (Dave) and Michelle, and his son Thomas (Alexis), Stepdaughter Caroline (Kevin) and Stepson Ron. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Calvin, Andrea, Olivia, Stephanie and Logan.
Irwin was born September 1, 1940, grew up in Huntsville with 4 sisters, Evelyn, Roberta, Shirly and Pauline. As a child he would spend his summers in Algonquin Park helping his parents at Camp Minnesing and later at Fieldale Lodge. In his teens he was always going to the Saturday night Dance in his Model T. After high school while getting his haircut it was suggested that he should become a barber because he had the personality to talk to anyone and became the local barber for many years, eventually owning M+M Meats in Huntsville and Bracebridge.
Irwin loved to work with wood and would spend his evenings after 40 winks in the big chair making paddles and axe handles. Other passions were his gardens, feeding the “wildlife” in his back yard, making toboggan runs in the back bush for the kids and grandchildren and spending time with family and friends.
He was a proud man and would give anyone what he thought they might need, from an ear to listen, to advice or a pair of new work gloves to help in the garden. Irwin will be missed dearly by his family and friends. He was taken too soon from us but was needed somewhere else. He was the most wonderful Husband, Father, Stepfather, Uncle and Pa Pere that anyone could ask for.
Graveside Service will be held at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at Hutcheson Memorial Cemetery followed by a reception at the Billingsley Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Irwin's name may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada.
