Ernie Reid

ERNEST JOHN REID

Born August 6th, 1940. Died August 23rd, 2023, at the age of 83 with loving family at his side.  Ernie was born at the home of Martha and Allan Reid on Britannia Rd in Huntsville, Ontario. He is the youngest of 7. Predeceased by brothers and sisters, Mae Farnsworth, Charlie Reid, Thelma Schamehorn, Doretta Alldred, Sherwood Reid, and Dan Reid. 

Ernie met the love of his life Maxine Bartlett and were married for 63 years. During this time, they raised 4 children. Clayton Reid (Patti), Brady Reid (Cheryl), Penny Adams (Bill), Tammy Shields (Gord).  Proud grandfather of ten. Nicole Reid (Kristin), Jaime Prud’homme (Andre), Jessica Borlase (Kyle), Brandon Reid (Shay), Gary Adams (Renee), Kayla Adams (Doug), Elizabeth Adams (Peter), Matthew Adams (Isabella), Cole Shields (Kylie), Luke Shields.

Proud great grandfather of seven. Taylor and Liam Carnduff, Charlie and Madeline Prud’homme, Rudy Borlase, Blake and Levi Adams.

Ernie drove for Snowden’s Taxi of Huntsville. Then worked for the Co-op Dairy being a Milkman delivering dairy products door to door. Co-op Dairy closed and he went to work for the Huntsville Dairy, which was short lived. He then went back to school in Orillia to earn his Grade 12 diploma and started working at the Huntsville Hospital as an Ambulance Attendant in 1972. Taking many courses throughout his career, one in particular was returning to school to earn his EMCA to become a Paramedic. He retired in 1999, giving 27 years of service.

Ernie had a passion for music and loved to play his guitar and sing. He also enjoyed golfing, curling, playing cards, fishing, hunting, camping and spending hours woodworking.  He also had a great passion for the church and its ministries along with enjoying times at Muskoka Bible Conference and Fair Havens Bible Conference campground.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Thursday, August 31, 2023, from 6-8 p.m. at Billingsley Funeral Home and on Friday, September 1, 2023, at Riverside Baptist Church at 10:00 a.m. until time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m.  Reception to follow the funeral service followed by interment at Ilfracombe Cemetery.   As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Heart & Stroke Foundation.
