Passed away peacefully on March 14, 2024, at Hospice in Huntsville, in her 81st year. Eileen was born on December 20, 1943 in Huntsville to parents Edison and Lorraine Broadbent. On October 20, 1962, Eileen married Bruce Appleyard then settling in Huntsville raising six children. She leaves behind her sons Rick (Bev), James (Amanda) and Raymond Appleyard and her daughter Joyce (Marvin) Green. Predeceased by her sons Gerald and Douglas Appleyard. She is the beloved grandmother of Matthew (Kayla), Taylor (Cody) Whale, Norman MacKay, Savannah, Quinton, Dillon, Ryan, Damon and Kaydan. Great-grandmother of Rayna and Jackson MacKay and Denim Whale. Dear sister of Ray (Deb), John and Kenny ( Sherry) Broadbent. Predeceased by her brothers Harvey (June), Sidney, Roger and Sanford Broadbent and her sister Caroline ( Dave) Lupton. Eileen will be missed by her many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
Eileen graduated from grade 7 and chose to start working at the Empire Hotel as a housekeeper before marrying Bruce and becoming a full-time mom to six children. Eileen lived for her children, Family was very important to Eileen, spending time with her Children, Grandchildren and Great-grandchildren gave her the most joy. She spent a great deal of time researching her family history and shared at family reunions. Stories were told of how hard everyone worked completing chores around the house growing up – cutting wood, gardening and of course walking many miles just to get to school. Eileen's greatest joy was dancing (she gave many lessons to her families), she also enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles but it was her computer and sharing life on Facebook she loved - always saying her good mornings, afternoons, and nights to all family and friends.
Eileen was a survivor! She battled through many health scares with strength and determination. She will be remembered for that strength but also for the love and kindness she shared with all who knew her.
Eileen will be dearly missed, rest in peace, you were dearly loved and cherished.
