Edward (Ted) William Hope, 89, of Dorset, Ontario, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2024, in Huntsville, Ontario, after a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. Edward was born on July 12, 1935, in Toronto, to Fern and Laurence Hope.
On February 24, 1962, he married the love of his life, Gail, with whom he shared over 60 years of marriage. Together, they raised four children: Lawrence (Larry), Janice, Heather, and Dan.
Ted worked for Ontario Hydro for 32 dedicated years. Outside of work, he was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, ATVing, and spending cherished times at his beloved cottage on Lake of Bays. He found joy in sitting on his veranda with Gail and a glass of wine, savoring Dorset’s breathtaking sunsets, and he was known to all for his deep love of Staffordshire Bull Terriers, whose companionship enriched his life over the years. Ted was deeply connected to the Dorset community and volunteered with the Dorset Lions Club, where he served as a past president.
Ted is survived by his loving wife, Gail; his children: Larry, Janice Walker (John), Heather McCallum (Phil), and Dan Hope (Rebecca); and his cherished grandchildren: Jade, Wesley, Cameron, Matthew, Jackson, Hudson, and Miller. He was predeceased by his parents, Fern and Laurence Hope.
Friends and family are invited to gather for visitation on Monday, November 18, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., and on Tuesday, November 19, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., with a service to follow at 11:00 a.m. officiated by Rev. Meg Jordan at Billingsley Funeral Home, 430 Ravenscliffe Road, Huntsville, Ontario. A reception will be held from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m., with interment to follow at 2:30 p.m. at Paint Lake Pioneer Cemetery, 1099 Paint Lake Road, Dorset.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Algonquin Grace Hospice in Huntsville.
Ted’s family would like to thank the staff at Algonquin Grace Hospice for their unparalleled, compassionate care as Ted spent his final days with family by his side.
Ted’s legacy of love, laughter, and dedication to his family will be remembered by all who knew him.
