COX, David Ross
May 6, 1949 – January 8, 2023
On Sunday, January 8th, David Ross Cox passed away at the age of 73 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 26 years, Eileen; his daughter Erin (Mike) Sawyer; step children Angela Shillolo, Gina (Jason) Boyd, Lisa (Rabb) Ewan, Paul (Tiffany) Shillolo; grandchildren, Gavin and Anderson Sawyer, Zachary and Ellawyn Shillolo, Kadin and Sierra Boyd, Enzo and Raven Ewan; siblings, Shirley and Gord Stone, Gerri and Bill Racknor; in laws, Annette and Joe Brunetti, Peter and Theresa Scanga, Franco Savoia, and Anthony Scanga; many nieces and nephews especially Randy and Twig McNutt who stood by him until the very end, and their family. He is survived by his adopted daughters, their spouses and their children. He was predeceased very early in life by his father John Clement Cox and raised by James Bartindale and his mother, Winifred (Flossy); infant sisters Glenna Jean Cox and Martha Mae Cox; siblings Betty Anne Ditmar, Al Cox, Barb Cole, Eileen Ionson; mother-in-law Eileen Scanga and sister in law Barbara Savoia.
Ross will be dearly missed by his many friends and colleagues as he spent 32 years teaching. He enjoyed getting dressed up to go to dinners and shows with his wife. He truly loved to travel and the open road, especially on his motorcycles. To him it was all about the journey, not the destination. When he wasn’t adventuring you could usually find him in the garage, music on, tools in hand as he was an accomplished woodworker. But no matter where he was you could always hear him whistling.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2023 at Billingsley Funeral Home in Huntsville from 5:00 p.m. until time of service in the funeral home chapel at 7:00 p.m. For those unable to attend the funeral service, live streaming will be available and can be accessed below in the service section. The Burial and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in the spring.
The family wishes to extend much gratitude to the staff, especially Dr. Tracy Hayes at the Oak Lodge, part of North Bay Regional Health Centre in Sudbury as well as the many amazing staff at Helping Hands Home Support Services in Emsdale and The North East LHIN and the North Simcoe Muskoka LHIN for their extraordinary care and compassion. The family would also like to acknowledge both the North Bay and Muskoka Alzheimer’s Society for their continuous support through the last chapter of Ross’ life.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Oak Lodge on the 3rd Floor of 680 Kirkwood Place, Sudbury Ontario for the exceptional care Ross received. Cash or cheque donations can be made at the visitation/service or you can contact Billingsley Funeral Home if you are unable to attend and would like to donate.
