Bruce Walter Battram

In his final hours, Bruce asked the nurses at Fairvern Long Term Care to get him up to go fishing which he did in the early morning of December 30th. Preceded in death by his parents Walter and Muriel (Martin) of Hamilton and his first wife Barbara (Smith) of Oakville. A source of unwavering support, strength, and stability, especially in the last few days, weeks, months, and years; Bruce will be missed by his second wife and rock, Elizabeth (Liz) (Antcliffe).

Never forgotten with so many fond memories, adventures, stories, jokes, his corrections regarding the proper use of the English language and with unconditional love are his children Brenda Roque (Manny), Beverley Battram (Bob Reeve), Bradley (Lisa) and his grandson Benjamin (Danielle). Blessed with the addition of his step-children by his marriage to Liz; always there with love, compassion, and great times and who also now have a large void in their lives are Bonnie Antcliffe, Lynn Leal (Doug), Scott Antcliffe (Santana), his dear step-grandchildren Shawn Leal (Katherine), Kaitlynn Leal and step-great-grandchildren Lucas and Christine Leal.

Sorely missed by the extended family members of his children, his nephew, cousins, and many long-time friends, especially the members of The Last House who called him “MM” (translation Motor Mouth), Civitan, and his ping-pong group and their wives.

After completing Grade 12 at Delta High School in Hamilton, Bruce followed the love of his life, Barb, to Oakville securing a job at the Oakville Ford Assembly Plant Office and worked there until his early retirement. When he was not working and raising his family, you could find him pitching a baseball game, at the rink playing hockey, out on the golf course or playing a rousing game of cards. Many will remember fondly the music and laughter-filled parties at the family home in Oakville. His passion for Dixie music or singing along with Mitch Miller and The Gang will remain with all of us.

Bruce was fortunate to have fallen in love twice. Following the death of his first wife Barbara, he met his second wife Liz, with whom he shared a passion for the outdoors, swimming and boating at the family home in Huntsville. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, four-wheeling, and snowmobiling in the Muskoka area.

There will be a visitation on Saturday, January 4th at Billingsley Funeral Home in Huntsville at 2:00 pm followed by a service at 3:00 pm. For those who prefer to watch the service online, the link is available on the Billingsley website.

In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that a tribute gift memoriam donation be made to Fairvern Long Term Care "Friends of Fairvern" in Huntsville by contacting their Administration at 1-705-789-6011 Ext. 4339 or press #1.

At the end of any event, Bruce would lead all those willing to sing in the four- part harmony chorus of “You’re the flower of my heart, Sweet Adeline” and most would join in and continue singing as they walked out the door and to their cars. As Bruce’s final event approaches on the 4th, you just may feel the echoes of this song in your heart that day.
