Adelaide Roberta Kerr
July 6th, 1933 - October 29th, 2018
Adelaide was born to Alex and Adelaide (Addie) Livingstone on July 6th, 1933. She had two older sisters (Ivy and Ella) and an older brother (Jack) who she looked up to and loved dearly.
She was raised in the beach district of Toronto on Queen Street where her family owned a grocery store. She spent much of her childhood helping behind the counter, or pulling groceries in her wagon. The second world war shaped much of her outlook on life, being frugal and having compassion for others in need.
She met her future husband Des when she was 11 years old and after the introduction declared to a friend that she would one day marry him.
She attended Danforth Tech School in Toronto where she studied art which was a life long passion of hers.
She had her older sister Ivy convince their dad to allow her to marry Des even though she had just turned 17 years old.
They started their married life on the Kerr family farm in Altona, ON. She would often say "I was this young, green, city girl who moved out to the country with no running water, or electricity."
They built their first home on the farm a few years later, and proceeded to welcome seven children into their family. She would always consider the farm in Altona "home," and looked back on that time as a golden memory.
Adelaide and Des moved up to Muskoka in 1975 after being expropriated from their farm. They took over ownership of rental cottages on the river in Port Sydney. Eventually they moved and built their log home on Deer Lake Rd.
She was a strong advocate and believer in Christian education. They were a founding family of Muskoka Christian School where she taught Kindergarten for 20 years.
She spent her retirement volunteering and serving at Faith Baptist Church as a prayer warrior, and servant of Christ, one of her favourite roles being apart of the nursery team for TLC. She was also a valued member of her small group.
